What’s Happening with BMC: Announcing new Brooklyn Movement Center Board

I believe when Black Women lead, we make true, impactful change for all we serve. That’s why I’m proud to announce our new Advisory Board of Directors for Brooklyn Movement Center. 

Our new board is made up of four inspirational Black women, all with strong ties to Brooklyn, almost all Brooklyn-born and raised, and a passion for our people and community that won’t quit.

Our co-chairs, Kofo and zakia are not only longtime supporters of BMC and native Brooklynites, but also true leaders in their professions and our communities. J.Q. and Ogonnaya, both powerful community leaders with deep connections to the community and long legacies of service in Brooklyn, join them. 

With their leadership of BMC, we’ll continue our rebuilding work from a strong foundation rooted in lived experience and unwavering love for Bed Stuy, Crown Heights, and Brownsville - our people, our communities, our stories, and our collective power. 

It’s not lost on us that this is Black August, a time when we commemorate the revolutionary work of Black people to build brighter futures and resist oppressive forces. We celebrate Black-owned businesses and organizations and uplift stories of Black resistance and resilience. 

BMC is a product of the long, rich history of Black community coming together and building something better, bolder, and brighter. I’m excited about this new phase of board leadership and the exciting opportunities ahead to create the Central Brooklyn we want and need.
